A popular Ukrainian souvenir, the Matryoshka doll (sometimes called the Russian nesting doll) is at first glance one colorfully painted wooden piece. Opening the doll, however, reveals other pieces which are each consecutively smaller than its outer duplicate counterpart. Children especially enjoy finding the dolls hidden inside. “On the third day he was raised again from the dead . . .” As Christ lay hidden within the cave tomb, it likely appeared to his followers that all was lost. But Easter morning revealed convincingly that Jesus Christ was successful as our Savior. He “was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead (Romans 1).
