They Are Not in Jail

These boys reside in an orphan home in Guntipalli, India. The bars on the windows are a customary building construction feature, unfortunately necessary in a society so rife with poverty. How did they end up in an orphan home? It is possible that both of their Hindu parents have died. Perhaps they come from single-parent families unable to provide for their children or ones suffering parental Illness or lack of resources.

In the nineteen orphan homes run by Lutheran Mission of Salvation – India (LMSI), approximately 300 children are provided food, clothing, and shelter. They are educated in Lutheran Elementary Schools operated by LMSI or in nearby public schools. The homes are generally managed by the families of pastors or student-pastors, assuring not only responsible care, but also that the children learn Christian doctrine. Visitors to the orphan homes often hear the children pray the Lord’s Prayer, or recite the Apostles Creed and the Six Chief Parts of Luther’s Catechism. Learning the Good News that Jesus Christ is the Savior is quite a precious spiritual blessing for children whose culture is founded on the myriad of false Hindu gods!

If Christians do not help those in need, who will? It is a privilege of Christian world mission outreach to care for the physical and spiritual needs of children because Jesus says, “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these (Mark 10).”
