We Are Not Powerless

As of the time of this post, seven videos have been released showing employees of abortion provider Planned Parenthood discussing selling the body parts of babies it has murdered through abortion, discussing ways to maximize the number of saleable parts and hinting at ways to get around current laws. A former employee of a buyer of parts tells how she witnessed babies born alive who were dissected for organs before the hearts had stopped beating.

For Christians, this is not merely a political issue, it is primarily one of faithfulness to God and His Word. God has commanded, “You Shall Not Murder” (Exodus 20: 13). The Bible is clear that unborn children are human beings and are precious to God: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13)

We live in a society that has turned its collective face away from this issue, preferring not to deal with the reality of millions of murdered infants. But, as Christians, we cannot turn away from this. We are obligated to call abortion sinful, because God calls murder sinful. At the same time we condemn this practice, we can look for ways to help women with unplanned pregnancies get the help they need to care for the children growing inside them. We help those who have been emotionally and physically damaged by abortion, leading them to Jesus, who says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). And we pray that God, through the power of His live-giving Word, will change the hearts of so many who have turned away from Him.

We are not powerless. God is on our side, even when it seems that no one will listen or take action. As we continue to confess the truth in love, we are strengthened by Jesus’ promise, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
