This is hardly a kitchen American Christians can relate to, but it is where the cook in an Indian orphan home prepares meals for children. The stone mortar and pestle grind spices for vegetable curry. The pot boils rice.
Jesus identified one aspect of evidence of Christian faith: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat (Matthew 25).” We live in a world in which some of our neighbors are hungry people. Many of them are children.
When we American Christians note the blessings God has granted us, we may be moved to ask, “Can I help people in need?” The answer is “Yes!” The Lutheran Mission of Salvation – India (LMSI) cares for 300 orphans. Meals, clothing, education and supervision are provided by responsible Christians. In these homes, children learn Luther’s Small Catechism. Teaching children about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ their Savior is the primary purpose for this orphan care.
LMSI is supported by Cross-stitch, the network of ELS Women’s Mission Societies, and by the ELS Board for World Outreach. Reach them at 6 Browns Ct., Mankato, MN 56001.
