Isaiah says of God’s people, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine (Isaiah 43).” Knowing each of us is not simply one aspect of God’s omniscience, it is a comfort for Christians to know that we are personally and intimately known by our Heavenly Father – and loved by him despite our fallen sinful human nature!
Above, a personal name written in Hangul, the South Korean language system. Does it matter how we are identified, or whether our names might be recognized by others? Not really. “The Lord knows those who are his (2 Timothy 2).” Jesus lived sinlessly and died innocently for us – all of us, and each of us – winning forgiveness and salvation. So our Savior encourages us to “ . . . rejoice that your names are written in heaven (Luke 10).”
