A common feature in Asian architecture, the roof made from fired clay tiles arches upward as it extends outward. Atop the ridge of the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul are Japsang figures, mythological animals thought to ward off evil spirits, in particular to protect against fire. Rather than relying on superstition, we pray “Deliver us from evil” in the prayer our Savior taught. Why should we trust Christ for physical, material and (more importantly) spiritual protection? Because we know “Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.”
