Update from Rev. Thomas Heyn, Administrator for the ELS Board for World Outreach.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
We have heard from Nick and Kerry Laper with an update on what is happening for them and for the Gift of Life personnel and program in Ukraine.
Nick and Kerry were returning from a vacation in Egypt when the war broke out. They were supposed to return to Ukraine today, Thursday, and then return to the United States on Saturday. They are currently staying in Egypt while they wait for return arrangements to be made. They expect to return to the United States through Poland, but that will be determined later. They currently have a minimum amount of baggage while they wait.
The Gift of Life program is temporary closed. Many of the staff are in their villages. Some live in the cities being attacked. So we certainly want to keep them in our prayers and to ask the Lord for the safe return of the Lapers.
We will provide additional information as it becomes available to us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, heavenly Father, we know that the events of this world are in your hands and that you are always working all things out for the good of your people. We pray that you would watch over and protect those who minister on your behalf. May you also especially watch over those who may be injured in this conflict, those who may be taken prisoner, and comfort the families of those who perish. Use these events for your glory and to move your people to prayer and acts of compassion. We ask this in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
