We are very pleased to announce a new logo design for the Evangelical Lutheran Synod! The new logo, which will be used for all official synod communication, was designed by Jonathan Mayer of Scapegoat Studio.
The logo incorporates the “Chi Rho” symbol from our former logo with a cross, and keeps Christ and His atonement for our sins at the center of our theology.
Mayer is also designing individualized versions of the logo for most of our boards and committees. As these are finalized, we will be sharing them with you. You will see the new synod logo appearing online immediately on social media. Updates to our website should be complete soon. Below are several versions of the logo with type.
Why a new logo?
Our former logo has been in use for about the last 15 years and has served us well. However, with the increasing use of online communication, unified colors and logo design for the synod, as well as for our boards and committees, has become increasingly important.
The new designs will allow us to clearly identify from which synod entity an announcement comes. For instance, when the Doctrine Committee publishes a study document, the committee will use its own version of the logo.
Files of the new ELS logo are available to all ELS congregations. If your congregation would like copies for church use, please email the communication director through the contact form on the ELS website.
