On March 25th, the Christian Church celebrates the Festival of the Annunciation, when the angel announced to Mary that she would bear the Savior. This festival is exactly nine months before Christmas.
And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:30-33 ESV)
Hymn ELH 267:2,3 From East to West
Behold, the world’s Creator wears
The form and fashion of our frame;
Our very flesh our Maker shares,
To save a fallen world He came.
For this how wondrously He wrought!
A maiden, in her lowly place,
Became, in ways beyond all thought,
The chosen vessel of His grace.
Heavenly Father, I thank and praise You for fulfilling Your promise of sending a Savior. As Mary humbly submitted humbly to Your will, help me humbly to confess the sins my Savior paid for with His life and to joyfully receive Your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
