Light for My Path Daily Devotion

Bible Reading

In those days, John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near!” Yes, this is he of whom this was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.”  John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan were going out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins. (Matthew 3:1-6 EHV)

Hymn ELH 106: 1,3,4 On Jordan’s Bank the Herald’s Cry

On Jordan’s bank the herald’s cry
Announces that the Lord is nigh;
Awake and hearken, for he brings
Glad tidings of the King of kings.

For Thou art our Salvation, Lord,
Our Refuge and our great Reward;
Without Thy grace we waste away,
Like flowers that wither and decay.

To heal the sick stretch out Thine hand
And bid the fallen sinner stand;
Once more upon thy people shine
And fill the world with love divine.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to remember the first coming of Jesus with great joy and prepare my heart to meet Him when He returns to take His children to be with Him in Heaven. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
