Light for My Path Daily Devotion

Bible Reading

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.  In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’”  (Jeremiah 33:14-16 ESV)

Hymn  ELH 121:1,5    Behold a Branch is Growing

Behold, a Branch is growing
Of loveliest form and grace,
As prophets sung, foreknowing;
It springs from Jesse’s race
And bears one little Flower
In midst of coldest winter,
At deepest midnight hour.

O Savior, Child of Mary,
Who felt our human woe;
O Savior, King of Glory,
Who dost our weakness know,
Bring us at length, we pray,
To the bright courts of heaven
And to the endless day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, through Your promise of a Savior to come, You blessed believers of Old Testament times.  Through Jesus, the promise fulfilled, You have blessed all people with a Savior Who has paid for the sins of the world and gives life to all whose faith is in Him.  Strengthen my faith in Jesus and help others to put their faith in Him.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
