India Diary – Part 5

How do you describe 175 children singing and throwing flower petals as you walk into their school?  It’s quite an experience!

Today we visited Grace and Truth Lutheran Cornerstone school in Rajahmundry.  The school currently operates in two rented buildings, but will move to the second floor above Good Shepherd Lutheran Church as soon as the funds are available for completing the project. An additional $30,000. needs to be raised to complete the school section of the building.

The students had rehearsed for the past week and presented an hour-long program of catechism recitations, singing, dancing… and even a karate demonstration!  We then toured the classrooms and met all of the faculty. The students are crowded into very tiny rooms, yet neighborhood parents scrape up the tiny tuition fee (about $2.00 per month) to send their children to our school. God is truly blessing this school and they can’t wait to occupy a new building. The new construction will allow up to 300 students.

This is the last entry from Rajahmundry.  We’ll be travelling to Hyderabad next for more ordinations, a school dedication, and much more! We’ll be posting a photo album soon on Facebook with many more photos from our visit to Rajahmundry.
